Where we care about you, and your health
The Nutrition Room is a friendly and helpful therapy centre dedicated to improving well-being and health through nutrition and life-style advice. I am a qualified nutritional therapist who provides personalised, confidential and easily implemented advice and support. The aim is to help you to simply improve and maintain your health in a manner in tune with your body.
The gut is the largest organ in the body and the route by which all the nutrients and minerals needed to sustain you are absorbed. Often, the issues you are having with health originated in the gut either in what you are putting into it or, how it is working. The effect on your body can take years to appear, which takes effort to resolve. At the Nutrition Room I provide advice in a way that you can understand and make changes to your life with long lasting benefits.
Nutritional therapists advise on a wide range of conditions by assessing symptoms and then recommending changes in nutrition and life-style to improve wellbeing. They apply knowledge of the body's function and the effects of food, vitamins and minerals, in parallel with considerations of your current general health, well-being and life-style, to deliver a positive change to your health.
Therapists work with those who are effected by conditions such as depression, anxiety, asthma, skin problems, fatigue, IBS, reflux, weight problems, arthritis, menopause, diabetes and migraines.
As a Nutritional Therapist I am qualified with the professional association of the British Association of Nutritional Therapists (BANT). I studied for 4 years with the Institute of Optimum Nutrition (ION) enabling me with the knowledge and expertise to provide you with nutrition information and advice.
There are a variety of symptoms that you can feel as a result of nutrition and life-style choices:
Poor sleep;
muscle and joint pain;
shortness of breath;
high and low energy;
headaches;
and blood pressure issues.
There are other conditions that occur as a result of processes in the body. Perhaps you are approaching the menopause, do you have diabetes or arthritis, or other health issues concerning you?
Do you think that you have an immunity issue? Do you eat something and feel unwell?
Nutrition may help alleviate or eradicate these symptoms. Get in touch to see how we can help
IBS is a common condition, often relating to a range of gut symptoms which could be as a result of your diet and lifestyle. What you eat, when you eat and how your body digests and absorbs your nutrition all contribute to how food is effecting your health.
If you have symptoms such as bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, indigestion, acid reflux or skin problems, they may be a symptom of digestive problems. Conditions related to gut health are varied and could include allergies and intolerances.
You may only need to make a small change but, it could positive effect on your long term health
Acid reflux is a common condition suffered by many. Often people are given acid blocking medications to help with this condition. But we need acid to breakdown our food and help us absorb important vitamins and minerals. So would changing some eating habits help?
Perhaps you would prefer not to take the medication?
I have been trained to see where diet and lifestyle can help and where medication is necessary, and if able to remove the medication, an appropriate protocol to avoid rebound reflux
Here at the nutrition room, we take time to study you, your lifestyle and your nutrition all aimed at making a happy healthier you. We offer:
"I contacted Lorraine at a time when I was experiencing almost constant pain from diverticulosis and was desperate to get relief, having received little or no guidance from normal channels. During the course of just a few months and, having studied my diet and lifestyle in depth, Lorraine was instrumental in helping me get back on track and, thanks to her, I am enjoying life again. Throughout our meetings I found Lorraine to be very approachable and kind and, at long last, felt someone was really listening to my problems "
"Lorraine was recommended to me, as I was suffering from increasingly frequent episodes of stomach cramps and loose bowel movements. In addition, I constantly had bouts of little or no energy and a feeling of “bloating” whenever I ate. After a variety of medical tests, a vague “it could be a touch of IBS” diagnosis was given, but the issues continued. Over the course of three appointments with Lorraine, she identified how my symptoms were related to my diet and I was given plenty of advice and ideas on how to make permanent, healthy changes, including identifying a food intolerance. It was all done in a friendly manner, without it ever feeling like “preaching” or being “told off” and it really felt like we were working together. The changes made to my diet have pretty much eradicated my symptoms and if I do get them, I can usually identify what I’ve eaten that has caused them. I would recommend Lorraine’s nutritional advice to anyone and in fact, I regularly do! One piece of advice from me is be brutally honest with your food diary – Lorraine can’t help you to improve it if she doesn’t know its in your diet!
